Dr. Knox has more than 25 years of experience in social, economic, and community research. Much of his work has involved public policy research and/or issues related to economic and land use development, though his recent practice has also focused strongly on community indicators and social program evaluation. He holds a PhD in Psychology and a graduate certificate in Urban Planning from the University of Hawai`i. He served as 2004-06 president of the Hawai`i Economic Association and also serves on the boards of the Hawai`i Council for Economic Education and the Urban Land Institute, Hawai`i District.

Sara is experienced in environmental, community, and land use planning, as well as socio-economic research and program/policy evaluation. She earned her Master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa in 2009 and is currently pursuing a Doctoral degree in Planning, as well as finishing a Graduate Certificate in Disaster Management & Humanitarian Assistance, at UH Mānoa. Sara has been involved in various planning projects in Hawai‘i over the last few years, and is now involved in a range of socio-economic impact studies here at JMK Associates.

Ms. Mamiit is a natural resource professional with training and broad experience in conducting economic evaluation and socioeconomic assessment. She has 5 years' collective professional experience in carrying out projects, which involve economic and environmental valuation, cost-benefit analysis, socioeconomic and environmental impact assessment. Her work is characterized by her ability to lead change in complex environments, to work in multi-cultural and multi-disciplinary setting, as well as communication and teamwork skills. Ms. Mamiit has been involved in various socioeconomic projects across Southeast Asia including Sri Lanka. She has worked with John M. Knox & Associates as a consultant for the Hawai`i Coastal Zone Management Program and other projects.

Edward Knox is a Hawai‘i resident with substantial experience in community programs throughout Asia. He founded the Coron Community Center during his time as a US Peace Corps Volunteer in the Philippines (Palawan Province). He worked with rural schools in the Coron Municipality and the Children’s Chance orphanage. He facilitated agricultural education seminars and college counseling programs.

Mr. Knox was raised in Waimānalo. He attended college in Washington, DC, and studied in Rome, Shanghai, and Beijing. He taught English in Hanoi before becoming a Peace Corps Volunteer, and traveled through Mongolia extensively afterwards.

Ms. Kop assists John M. Knox & Associates with community interviews, logistics for group discussions, general research and administrative assistance as needed. Her community activities include maintaining a database for registered Hawaiian voters with Ha Hawai`i, and volunteering with the Lokahi Giving Project.
